Making the Right Choices When it Comes to Wooden Outdoor Furniture

The warmer weather is always a welcome change after the chilling conditions of winter. For many, it means more opportunities to get outside and enjoy their backyard or patio again. Outdoor furniture is a staple when it comes to embracing the season, and it doesn’t get much better than a beautiful wooden garden set. At The Best Adirondack Chair Company, we know this all too well, taking pride in building impeccable products that make you want to sit outside and enjoy them.

While there’s a lot to consider when it comes to the purchase of your new patio set, we believe it’s important to find the right pieces that will serve you, your family, and your guests throughout the season and years to come. Check out our list of what to consider when choosing wooden seating for your outdoor space to get some ideas.

Quality in Wooden Pieces

The longevity of wooden furniture is one of the reasons you are likely considering buying it. Ensure you are picking a brand that uses materials built to last. Plastics and some metals can have a short life span when it comes to being used as outdoor seating, but so can some cheap types of wood, which will warp and rot quicker than others. Opt for woods known for their strength such as redwood, cedar, walnut, acacia, shorea, or cypress. If you are eco-conscious, understand that redwood is slow-growing and in limited supply. Try to use wood products that are sourced from sustainable forestry methods.

We are proud to only use lumber harvested by Forest Stewardship Council certified suppliers. Our chairs come in cedar (which retains moisture, making it more resistant to cracking than other woods) and pine options, as well as Brazilian walnut. Our products are also easy to stain to match any existing wooden pieces you might have.

Know Your Needs

You’ve probably got a good idea of where you want this new set to go. Measure the approximate space so you know how many chairs can fit comfortably around the firepit or on the deck. Next, consider how many people might be sitting out with you at a given time. Do friends and extended family tend to drop in often? Ensure you have extra seating for those unexpected but welcomed guests.

In addition to seating, ask yourself, what is the prime purpose of this outdoor area? Will it be for al fresco dining? You’re going to want a sturdy table big enough to serve meals and an area where they can be enjoyed. Like to relax with a good book in the afternoon? A reclining or rocking chair might be just the ticket to transport you to paradise.

Make it Work with Multi-Purpose

Buying different wooden furniture pieces means they can serve various purposes depending on the occasion and number of guests. For example, an ottoman or footrest could work as extra seating, or a bench could become a refreshment table or buffet. Getting the best value for your money is even easier when you open up to the possibilities.

As well as Adirondack chairs, we also sell patio sets, accessories, footrests and side tables, garden swings, and more. Our selection of lounge chairs are particularly good at providing the perfect place to sit, sunbathe, and nap!

Comfort is Key

If you’ve spent some time sitting in wooden furniture, you know it isn’t always comfortable. The last thing you want is to find the right pieces and realize it makes your back ache or strains your neck. Know the quality and comfort level you are getting before you buy. Test out different chairs to understand how they feel and work for you.

Adirondack furniture meets both demands of being aesthetically pleasing and exceptionally comfortable. The sloped back and seat are ideal support for almost everyone. Ergonomically speaking, it can’t get much better when it comes to wooden garden furniture. Our chairs have been around for decades, and for good reason — they are some of the most comfortable around.

Easy Care is the Way to Go

Wooden outdoor furniture can come in a range of woods with all kinds of finishes. A pre-treated option means less work for you when it comes to upkeep, and the chairs will still look great after multiple seasons. While painted chairs can be nice statement pieces, wear and tear can cause them to crack and peel, requiring constant upkeep and retouching.

Our expertise comes from decades of experience in producing long-lasting wooden furniture. We have a four-step treatment process that is tried and true. First, we fully submerge all of our products in a vat of SICO ProLuxe, which is equivalent to three coats of stain. Once that layer is completely dried, we start to hand-spray an additional three coats of stain, sanding in between each of them. This gorgeous finish is available in different shades, and the water just beads off of the wood. Our famous high-shine finish lasts anywhere between four to 14 years, depending on exposure to climate.

Consider Where They Will Be Stored

While the warmer months can feel never-ending at times, the season for sitting outdoors will inevitably come to an end. When buying wooden garden furniture, consider the storage options you have at your home. You’ll likely want to bring in your chairs inside to preserve the wood for as long as possible.

Our chairs are conveniently foldable for easy storage for our customers. If you don’t have a lot of room for storage, consider our Forever product line, made with IPE wood (Brazilian walnut) as an extra durable option. Weighing in at 87 pounds, these chairs are scratch and rot resistant, coming in an oiled or unoiled finish. They can handle the most inclement weather without cause for concern. We call it our Forever line because we guarantee these pieces forever; that’s how much we trust in our IPE wood and craftsmanship!
